Halifax-based singer and pianist Zoe Leger has worked in an abundance of different choral settings and brings her passion for sharing the gift of song to every choir she works with. With a unique specialization in teaching jazz & contemporary music that breaks free of traditional choral repertoire, Zoe brings a fresh, passionate and youthful energy to teaching group singing. Holding a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies as well as a Master’s in Jazz Composition, Zoe has sung as a chorister as well as a featured soloist with award-winning ensembles such as The Halifax Camerata Singers, Xara Choral Theatre and The National Youth Choir of Canada. Zoe has acted as a conductor, section leader and guest director for noted ensembles as the St. Francis Xavier University Concert Choir and Camerata Xara Young Womens’ Choir. As a student, Zoe has studied under noted music professionals Ryan Billington, Tony Genge, Julia Davids, Paul Tynan, Hans Koller, John Taylor and Joe Cutler (UK). Currently, Zoe is an active faculty member of the Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts’ vocal department, conducting both an adult jazz choir as well as a teen pop vocal group in addition to  conducting freelance music workshops across Nova Scotia.

As one of the country’s most versatile emerging vocalists, Zoe’s warm, inviting voice has been drawing audiences throughout Canada and the United Kingdom since 2007. As a leader in Halifax’s contemporary and jazz music scenes, Zoe has studied with internationally renowned composers and pianists Hans Koller and John Taylor in addition to being a recipient of numerous scholarships and awards as a composer and arranger. As a teacher, Zoe is an enthusiastic, passionate educator who encourages singers of all ages and levels to find their unique voice and sing their story. Zoe specializes in teaching jazz and contemporary vocal repertoire and choral ensembles. Zoe has experience and is comfortable working with students of all ages and skill levels.
